How it started
My first taste of Warhammer was Dawn of War III, played with a buddy while I was serving with 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines. It was fun, but it wasn't what pulled me in. That happened when another friend invited us into Dark Heresy, a tabletop roleplaying game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. He did a great job leading a ragtag crew of Marines, and those sessions made our deployment a little more enjoyable. The storytelling and the atmosphere stuck with me.
Around COVID the spark came back, and it's been burning ever since.
Why the Blood Angels
It took me a while to work through all the lore, but I chose to be a son of Sanguinius. Red is my favorite color, but that's not why I picked them. It's the Red Thirst and the discipline it takes to hold it back, the tragic fate of their Primarch, the Black Rage they carry, and their Chapter Master's never-ending duty. If you asked me which chapter best explains the grimdark, I'd point to the Blood Angels.
From one printer to Brute Built Blueprints
When I was gifted a 3D printer, I joked about printing a mini or two. Then I thought: how cool would it be to have the rest of my gear, the pieces on the table while I play or paint, designed to match my faction? That's when I started learning Blender. Friends saw what I was making and asked for pieces for their own factions, and Brute Built Blueprints grew from there.
I'm still new to Blender and 3D printing, but I'm really enjoying what I can come up with. My favorite so far is the Salamanders dice tray (coming soon), and the goal is something for every faction.
